I'm right in the midst of my case coloring tests. I happen to have a copy of a letter written by Oscar Gaddy to Frank Brownell regarding case coloring temperatures. Have you see it? If not, I can take a pic and post it on a thread. It goes into a fair bit of detail regarding the pitfalls of Martinistic Hardening, with Oscar advocating quenches below critical temp, relying on the formation of Cementite and Pearlite rather than Martinsite as the composition of the skin. Oscar asserts that it essentially eliminates the possibility of deformation.
