Found this on Cabela's Gun Library site. These are getting hard to find, and this one is priced very reasonably.

There is a 16-gauge Model 31L on Gunbroker right now for almost no money that would be a spectacular grouse gun. It is a numbers matching, uncracked gun w/a 28 tube and modified choke. Probably weighs 5 1/2 pounds.

Nor do you deserve them. But I would have figured you for a Fox man anyway.

For about the last decade or so, I am the only Yankee I know that hunts grouse with a 12 gauge, sometimes. My Darne 12 is a bit lighter than the Beretta, even with a sling.

Lloyd and I did run into a really old looking guy that had a rather beat up looking Ithaca 37, could have been a 12 or 16, to my eye, from the truck. Cradled in one hand, beer and a smoke in the other.

Red Lake county, for you.

Best,
Ted

I have a Jeffery 12ga with 28" barrels and pretty open chokes that weighs just under 6#. That's light enough to pass muster for me as a grouse gun . . . but still half a pound heavier than my Parker Repro 28ga.

Lots of ruffed grouse (& others) have fallen to the 12. If I ever find a decent 2-inch gun before I'm to infirm to use it......

sadly, it is a mute point here in the north east...grouse are mostly all gone now...but, if we had birds to hunt, any six pound open choked gun would be a delight to carry in the woods...

keep it simple and keep it safe...

You don't get out much do you Ed?

The Northeast encompasses PA, NY, NJ and all of New England

How 'bout twenty or more flushes in a three hour hunt?
That's commonplace where I hunt in Vt.

Maybe you were thinking of pheasants?
