Like one of our biggest mass murders with an active shooter, my understanding is the Orlando shooter killed lots of people while law enforcement waited outside. 3 hours between first cop on the scene and killing him. Lots of the 50 people died over that period....not all at the start. Perhaps we need to re-think the protocols for engagement and negotiation. Maybe we just need to get in there and kill the shooter as fast as possible.

Canvasback I had the same thought.
I wonder how many of those 49 dead would have lived had the cops immediately assaulted the place when they had the swat team in place. I watched a show about combat treatment of our soldiers and they talked about "the golden hour". Meaning if they could get the wounded soldier in the operating room within an hour of being injured the percentages of him living went way up.
