Good morning,
We held our 4th Vintage day at South Worcester yesterday and our enthusiastic band of vintage gun owners didn't let us down. I will publish a few photos of some that I found particularly interesting.
Pete - who is quite tall had this continental pin fire bank gun.

I'd like to see the looks on the faces if I walked into an old X-card turkey shoot with that one.

A long gone old friend of mine once built a .32 cal. percussion "squirrel rifle", with about a 6 ft. long barrel. Though an oddity it was very high quality, as all of his guns were, but when you held it up to aim, you could actually see a droop in the barrel from breech to muzzle. I can't see any on that bank gun. Perhaps the lighter weight tube, as opposed to the heavy wall in the "squirrel rifle" is the difference.

Thanks for the pics.

I'm afraid my internet connection has been upgraded to 'superslow!' so be patient.

I didn't have much time for photos - so please excuse the poor quality and the lack of information. This gun had a sliding top cover to the percussion box - I bet it was the very devil on a cold day with thick gloves!

An interesting variation on a tube lock.

A rather intricate tube lock

I am not sure if this was a centre fire or a needle fire but the hinge out mechanism was one I hadn't seen before.

This pop up chamber for a percussion rifle would have been handy in a confined space.

And last but not least this is a pill fire with a detachable pill holder - not quite sure what the purpose is but someone must have had something in mind - perhaps if you had several preloaded it was safer than carry detonators loose in the pocket - or was easier in cold weather.
Hope you enjoy these fascinating bits of mechanisms.

John, those are super guns that are very hard to find. Thanks for the effort.

Are some of these interesting lock conversions from another form of ignition?

Latest slow motion clip of the punt gun dispatching yet another 40 gallon oil drum - never failed to kill them cleanly with the first shot!

John, the top gun with the sliding plate is a new one to me. Can you tell us how it works ? I assume it uses a percussion cap, but cannot tell how.
