Dan: I agree with the eccentric cam feel of that type of safety. I believe my 1906 William Richards has one as well but I've never been inside it. Hadoke's book on box locks is the only reason I could even ask that question about the spindle.

Dan,
Good looking gun, I like the beaded fences and the way it is filed up. Nicely engraved, with better than average coverage on the rib.
Thank you

Thanks Redoak. I really like it, it is a little over six pounds and wonderfully balanced. The only downside is there is a ton of cast off built into the stock which, based on my trap scores with this particular gun, does not work for me (it is built into the stock in a fashion that wouldn't really allow for bending either). Now I have to decide whether to attempt an amateur restocking effort...

Dan,
Do you think a butt transplant might work? There was a good article with photos in one of the magazines some years ago. A lot less work that a total restock.

Redoak, since the issue originates at the head of the stock, including the inletting, I don't think a butt transplant is an option. I addressed it somewhat in this post which also illustrates how the stock is constructed. I think it was very much a bespoke gun when new (which I suppose is unfortunate for me). http://doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthrea...true#Post442275

Yep, I remember that post, but I did not realize that it was the same gun.
I understand your dilemma now.

I assume that you already know the maker, but from reading the other post and looking at your photography, I'd guess Osborne, not Westley.

LLoyd, I am anything but clear on the maker but would love to know who it was! What makes you think Osborne?
