Merely a fishing expedition, but do we know anything about the "Ingnieur Civil A.I.L.G." or Association des Ingnieurs sortis de l'Universit de Lige(founded in 1817?)? I was reading thru the Charles Braekers & Cie advert I lifted below and it cause me to pause and reflect on what impact the A.I.L.G. had on the sporting weapons trade in Liege, etc.? Who were they & who were members, including non-inland folks?

Thoughts anyone?

Many very pretty guns have come out of Belgium.

They made both low end and the very best quality.

Wonder if they were involved in, as the London gunmakers referred to it as the, 'Blood' trade with the American Indian? Flintlock fowlers were procured from all sources as the various tribes demanded more and more firearms.

That was either the founding date of the University or the Civil Engineering Society.

So Charles Braekers was a civil Engineer with a diploma from the Liege university.
This has absolutely nothing to do with gun making...
Of course it does not mean that the guy was not a good gunmaker.
As a matter of fact, I own a Braekers .500NE double rifle, and it is very well made.
Best regards,
WC-

He also provided unfinished arms to various manufactures and they finished them and branded them?

Fun reading on A.I.L.G.

The founder Louis Trasenster was born in 1816 (1816-1887)

The'AILg - Association of Engineers, graduates of the University of Liege - was founded in 1847. Its objectives are the following: to serve its members, maintain contact between the successive promotions D'engineers, help the young people in their search for employment, disseminate information on scientific and technical activities, to support the participation in actions social and cultural.
The'AILg has a file of more than 7000 engineers, graduates of Cork; the latter is held permanently up to date. There are still 40 years here, the number of affiliates was higher than 3000 but, today, we can barely 1000 affiliates. The amount of the contributions varies between 0 and 99 in function of the year of output; it is reduced for those who have limited incomes; it amounts on average to 70 .
