Your damned straight Brother Runs, it was indeed the same Tom Archer; and the fact that the referenced A-2 Grade Smith DGJ article may have contained a date typo did nothing to discredit the balance of the information contained within, or me personally. For unlike you, I've never claimed to "walk on water"; nor do I criticize or sit in judgment of the other posters to this forum when I disagree with their comments or opinions.
And as to the referenced DGJ article illustrating the after-market ball grip to which Bobby has referred, that device was added to a special ordered straight-gripped PE Grade LC Smith two barrel set. It was made from a material that appeared to be gutta percha (probably misspelled, but I'm sure Runs will let us know); and was finely crafted and fully checkered to match the grip pattern. It was attached by a screw to the trigger guard strap, and the loosening of that screw allowed the device to be shifted fore or aft approximately 1/2". And like it or not, this device worked very well for shooting; and who ever did the work was a true craftsmen.
But I'm flattered to know Brother Runs that you've devoted yourself to proof reading the articles I've written and which were published by the DGJ; and it warms my heart to know that the most significant bit of information retained from those efforts has the Lusitania date snafu. And as you wait with great anticipation for your next new adventurers in proofing, please know I'm working on several other DGJ pieces I expect to be published in the near future. But rather than spending your time critiquing my work Brother Runs, I challenge you, as the self-acclaimed dean of all double gun knowledge; to step down off your throne of judgment and enlighten all of us by publishing and sharing your own vast trove of knowledge. You won't, after all, be living forever; so why not bless us with your gifts while you can still manipulate a keyboard?
And to those who may have read some of the articles I've published over the years, I sincerely appreciate your time whether you agreed with what you read or not. Those who've published articles understand very well how many hours of study, research, writing and re-writing, photo sessions, and so forth are required in order to prepare a single magazine ready piece. The financial reward for that effort is minimal and does not justify the time required to produce a quality work. One can rest assured that my motivation in writing is not monetary, but is derived solely from a desire to share the knowledge I've acquired (and mostly the hard way!) over many years with others who love this hobby before I'm dead. I'm human and I'm going to make mistakes, and as such will occasionally make a glaring mistake such as the date mistake that is now forever lodged deep within Brother Runs craw; and which mistake, by the way, I publicly acknowledged when Brother Runs pointed out same on this very forum 5 years or so ago. But in spite of my faults, and as time and opportunity permit; I'll continue to write and publish the information and observations I've acquired until such time as God calls me home, or that knowledge has been exhausted. Until that time I will remain humble, admit and ask forgiveness for my mistakes; and be forever unapologetic for my desire to reach out. Tom Archer
