Here's another bit of the wind in the willows" from my bench- When doing a clean and field strip on a few of my 12 gauge LC Smiths (removing the sidelocks, firing pins) for a "dust-off" with a toothbrush- my curiosity caused me to "mike" the length of the removed firing pins-both guns are post 1913 mfg- so no bushings to fool with-- as one looked slightly longer than its partner- in both case, by perhaps 0.060"- yet when replaced and the receiver tiled downward, the measured protrusion
was/is the same, as scaled. As I have the LC Smith recocking curved tool, I also, using a block of soft pine, dry fired each one into the wood-penetration was identical. By the way, I always mark with masking tape such parts when field stripping my firearms- RH- LH-- opposite hand, etc. I hope you will continue to contribute to this forum, we are lucky to read your advice given freely here- Many Thanks- RWTF
