All right, it looks real enough from the text of the article.

Hi, you may want to try and rub some white chalk on the markings. It's worked for me in the past quite well. They should show up against the dark metal.
Best!
Greg Brilliant idea. I have some photos that are ready to post, maybe I'll add the chalk and take one more. I've been shooting it. It really likes to eat 70gr of FFFg (or the same weight ofFFg for that matter) under the bullets cast from the mold. I've been using 43 Mauser brass, but it may be closer to the 11x58R Gras. I'm still waiting for my order of Cerrosafe to arrive so I can cast the chamber. Meantime, Black Bear season is on and I may have to take it for a walk in the woods.

There is a cheaper alternative to Cerrosafe for casting chambers, and that is sulfur. It will melt at boiling water temperatures, so can be melted in a home made double boiler consisting of a tin can in a larger can or in a regular cooking pan. The addition of a little bit of lamp black helps make it easier to read measurements from it. I haven't looked for sulfur recently, but used to get it from the local drug store. I first used it to identify a Remington rolling block rifle that was supposed to be in .45-70, but turned out to be in an obsolete Danish caliber.

Lefaucheux platform - scope was set atop much later, probably post WWI. There may be a set of initials adjacent to the forend lug. The S in a chevron notes sourcing from the Schilling forge & I believe the Crown over encircled Sword(rifle) thru crossed palms(flags) is that of Paul Scholberg? Cheers, Raimey rse

I'd say that Crown over Rifle(Sword) piercing crossed flags(palms) is a Paul Scholberg control stamp. Later Paul Scholberg example. Cheers, Raimey rse

Thanks for posting my photos, Raimey. They look much better than I expected. In person, it looks like the lozenge contains a musket (rifle?) with one pistol and one straight horn (like a brass hunting horn). Maybe they're palms, I'm the wrong person to ask. I'll see about doing the chalk thing next week. Maybe get more definition.
So you're thinking the barrels were sourced to Sholberg? I know they did that sort of thing for muzzleloaders, so it makes sense with BPCR (black powder cartridge rifle) as well.
What time frame do ya figure?
Interesting that the serial number on your fancy gun is really close to the s/n on my double (11069). When I slugged the barrels, I noticed that the grooves are really big and the lands are tiny; more like a knife edge than a land. You could say it's really groovy...

It could be crossed pistols or whatever you fancy. Does it have Henry rifling? Capture an image of the muzzle.
Cheers,

I'll see whether I can grab the muzzle; I'm no great photographer. (I'm too naive to know how Henry rifling appears.)
I CAN add a photo of one of the bullets, after slugging. Maybe that'll help. This afternoon, though, I'm at work now.
