Thanks guys. I'll forward some photos from home. I think I'll try doing a rubbing of the marks on the flats; they don't show up very well in photos.
As to the double rifle category: Sorry about that. I thought I was doing well to figure out how to post at all. I'm not that familiar with this forum.
Please don't take my earlier post as criticism. It's just that members here have different interests and that was the most appropriate area. However we are all looking forward to pictures of your rifle.
It would also be interesting to hear where you found this rifle and the circumstances under which you acquired it
