Here's the gun.

While not the prettiest piece of walnut, is that wrist asking for trouble? I normally like to see grain flowing through the wrist to the receiver, but does the functional strength look compromised?

should be OK....but the gun is overpriced....

everybody is digging their merkels out from the back of the closet trying to sell the for 1000/1500 more than they would of brought a couple years ago....just because merkel raised their prices and cheapened the guns....

Seems somewhat on-par with similar listings. Maybe $400 too high, but not egregious.

Cabelas tends to put things "on sale" when they want to move them, too.

Such is the market I suppose. If that's a post-GDR gun, then I don't think it's a terrible price if they'd go down to $4k. I don't see the importation stamp on it, though.

it was made 1995 or later, that is when the changed the rear of the receivers profile....4000 might be OK I they have box and papers for it....

don't think they offered the 20ga with a 28in barrel until sometime after 2000.....

Lots of good options for $4000-$5000 - I've seen Merkel ELs for that money, Parker Reproductions, etc.

You wanna talk overpriced? Check out this one!

I agree, I wouldn't pay full price for that. Most of the EL's I see in that price range have the scary Merkel single trigger or some funky chokes like cyl/cyl.
