I came across this photo, and thought some of you guys might get a kick out of it. Last year, I had the privilege of taking my wife to London, her girlhood dream vacation. My wife, realizing that the whole itinerary revolved around her, asked me if there was anything in particular I wanted to see. Being a shotgun enthusiast, I relished the opportunity to do something relating to the storied sporting arms history of London. So I looked up where Holland & Holland was located, and determined that it was a short walk from a tube stop. (We used public transportation for the whole trip, and the London Underground was an unexpected highlight for me. Very nice system.) I knew what I was getting into when I planned to stop in. The gracious employees that greeted me showed me to their coat closet, where I hung up my $20 rain jacket. They assured me it would be "quite safe". I spent my time in the store marveling at the displays of fine gear, their hunting and shooting literature, and of course, their gun room. In that gun room, a certain item caught my eye, and I just had to leave with it. I call this photo; "Dumb Yank with a Baseball Cap". The irony of my 25 purchase was not lost on me. And yes, my rain coat was quite safe.

Should have got the book and have the employees sign it, that's what I want to do if I ever get back over there. But a ballcap is good also. A lot of history sitting in that "shop."

My baby brother made the trip over when he was in high school in the '60s. He didn't pick up a baseball cap for me but he did bring home a pair of H&H 20ga snap-caps from the store. I still have them...Geo

I was there last August.
They were very helpful, storing my guns, and later transporting the guns to their shooting grounds in Northwood. They made things very easy for me and the gun room manager, Andrew Ambrose, couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating.
Their store is beautiful and is a must visit if you are in London.

I was lucky enough to get a 4 hour tour of the H&H factory from the plant manager. I bought the identical hat

I did more or less a similar thing on a trip with my wife to London, but I went to Purdy's, and came home with a shirt.
Some years ago, I went to the H&H store in NYC. It made me think a neutron bomb had gone off there; everything was in perfect condition, but there were no people there but me.

A friend of mine went to London a few years ago to visit his daughter. They visited H & H, Purdey's, and Dickson & McNaughton a day or so later. His reception was very warm and cordial at both H & H and at D. & Mc, but very cold and unappreciated at the big "P". He said he was basically ignored there.
I have heard similar reports from others.
