I like Greeners and that is an "innovation" that is completely lost on me. I would think if nothing else that would add a couple of ounces of weight needlessly.

It almost looks like the rib was aftermarket. Note the muzzle pictures. I think it's in the serial range that Greener has records on.

I have never seen this before and I question the originality of the rib . Either it has been relayed at some point as it dose not seen to be of a quality that would have been acceptable to Greener plus the fact I would have expected it to be a full lay over and not"dovetailed" as it is , which leads me to suspect it is later addition . I would have thought that the action would have been filed to fit the rib if it was factory made , not sure about the engraving either . Difficult to say without a physical inspection . Not to mention the re-harden and bluing.

Fascinating rib. Probably a great flop, but still something attractive about it. I bet shooting it into the general direction of the sun is a blinding experience. It needs some serious matting to be useable.

I'm not really keen on the looks of the muzzles and the blocks. . As to shooting into the general direction of the sun, you're probably right, Chuck. Speaking for myself, I try to avoid that angle so I can be sure of seeing my backstop and backdrop. But that's just me.

I would love to shoot a few pigeons with that gun. Researching its originality is only an email away.

For those of you who have a copy of Larry Shelton's book J.P. Clabrough Birmingham Gunmaker - see page 73. A Clabrough percussion is pictured with a similar width rib (at the rear). I don't recall if it's tapered like the Greener.

Homer Tyler was a great collector. He sold what he thought was interesting. I never met him, but he must have been "something".

Chuck H,
Regardless of the rib, or lack of a rib, I have very great difficulty shooting into the sun!
