I'll always remember that he kept all the wishbones from the Grouse he shot, keeping them in a glass bowl on his table if I remember correctly..


I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.

I assume the other guns were sold off after his death, long in wind

i do not remember the serial numbers being in Recollections of a Shooting Guest

when i have a chance i will get it out

Re:critique of GBE for factual errors
I do not read GBE for early smokeless powder company history.
I read his work for evocative and literate description of upland hunting experiences. We have very few writers in his class, and his writings are to be cherished.
Great writers rarely let absolute gospel truth get in the way of a good story. Small errors are all forgotten in appreciation of a great body of literature, and great illustration too.
