I have a .410 AyA that is in need of some choke modification. The chokes are marked IC and Mod but are much tighter than that and not useable for this guns intended purpose. Anyone have a suggestion for a good gunsmith to open chokes on a .410. I haven't had any luck with my usual sources.
Thanks.

Dennis

Try Mike Orlen. Just had one done and it only took about two weeks.

Tom, thanks for the reply. It was a .410 you had opened?

No. Just a 12 but I am sure he has the tools. He has done my barrel work and stock bending for some time. I think he specializes in metal work primarily.

I'm pretty sure that Mike Orlen can open .410 chokes.

He put Colonial screw in chokes in a Browning (Miroku) Model 42 .410 pump of mine. He did a good job with a fast turnaround.

I'll give Mike Orlen a call next. The barrels have been floating around the country now for six weeks and are being returned just as they left me. I'll get them back today and try again. Opening .410 chokes does not seem to be a routine job.

I have had a few guns worked on by Mike Orlen, He does good work and has a fast turn around.

I shipped a set of 16 ga. barrels to Mike on March 9th for opening up both. They just got back today on the 19th. Turnaround time is as good as it gets. Gil

Is it possible that your shotgun was produced when card and fiber wads were the norm?
An option to opening up your chokes and a lot less expensive is to load spreader loads with either 1-piece plastic wads or C&F wads. I have had good success and have opened chokes up by one choke. EG: Full to Mod, Mod to Imp. Cyl.
