Seems like a perfectly legitimate question to me. I could see a brighter sight being useful in some situations and it isn't going to hurt the gun any.

The only thing a tritium sight on a shotgun is useful for is maybe a turkey gun or for things that go bump in the night.

Stan -- The OP lives in Alaska. A Grizzly bumping in the night could require a decent sight picture:) Otherwise I'm not a big fan of the dayglow stuff either.

No argument about a tritium sight maybe being useful for a grizzly at night, on a big pistol or rifle, but what he would REALLY need for that would be a decent gun. A 20 ga. NID for grizzlies............... really? Until I see something to make me believe otherwise, I'm afraid I'm in the boat with keith on this one.

Why use a 20 when you can use a 12?

I was listening to Gun Talk on the radio on the weekend and a caller and Gresham were discussing the Savage 220 (bolt action, not the break action) 20 ga. and deer slug accuracy. Apparently it is capable of dispatching deer with accuracy up to 200 yards. I am with keith and Stan about the questioned gun. Now, if we were discussing the Ithaca Deer Slayer and optics, that's a different matter. Optics Ahoy! The 20 gauge super slug at 5/8 oz. (273 grains) moving at 1800 fps is a nasty piece of lead.

I agree there. smile

Either way those slugs are developing some serious skull crushing, bone smashing energy.

Right now the gun is on layaway with 20% down. When I get it I will upgrade front sight and mount newest compact Surefire light unit. It fits me very well and the barrels are 26" 1/4-3/4 choke constrictions. It will make wonderful all weather knockabout gun. It will be great, you will see.
