Hello:

I have a 12 gauge, AyA boxlock. The barrel rib has the standard AyA Made in Spain. The top of the left barrel is stamped Interarms. Serial number and proof marks place it at 1979 for year of manufacture. I do not believe it to be a DIARM gun based on year of manufacture. 28" barrels, ejectors, DT, English style straight-grip, checkered wood butt with straight-grain wood, silver initial oval. Color-cased frame, engraving pattern similar to current 4/53. Is it a No. 4?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Without images of the engraving, it may be a 4 or a 400E or other.

This is a 400E from the early sixties made for the British market.

Hi, the best way to find out is e-mail AyA the SN. They get back to you within a day or two. Here's a link:

Imported into this country in 1979,I'd bet it's a #4. You can often get pretty good buys on the old 4's compared to the 4/53's.

I have had quick responses to inquiries of AyA by e-mail. Given the serial number Carmen replied with Model, year of production (also in proof marks) and whether an ejector or non-ejector gun. Limited info, but prompt.
It is fun to speculate on a lovely Spanish lady named Carmen answering our inquiries.

Yes, Carmen replied early this morning and confirmed that it is in fact a No. 4.

Thanks,

The number 4's are quite popular in the U.K. and are a copy of the old Webley & Scott model 700. We also have the number 3 which is the non-ejector version but I understand they were not exported to the U.S. for some reason. Good solid reliable guns. Lagopus.....
