Here are two photos taken after I removed the stock from the acetone soak. Even though the photos are a bit washed out, it can be seen that the original finish has been totally stripped off.

I dont have any big plans to sand off the few nicks, scratches and other character signs. This gun is a 130 year old hardware store gun, a farm Implement. While its not a poorly made clunker its certainly not a high quality London Best gun either. I feel that simply freshening it up and making the gun presentable with its history and character intact is the best course of action. Ill post more photos when Im done refinishing the stock and have it put back together.

I think your plans for the stock are spot on. The wood actually looks pretty good for the age.

Thanks jOe, it just wouldn't seem right if I didn't get one of your one-liners. You made my day! To answer your question, a few years ago I bought a Kel-tec P32 handgun. I didn't realize what a useless POS it was until after I'd put a few hundred rounds through it at the range, or as they say at Kel-tec "Eh, trigger pull, what's that?" Anyhow, I traded it even for my new project gun and I'm very happy with the trade.

That looks like a cool project indeed. I've got a soft spot for the old relics myself, but 'round these parts most old relics are long gone to irreparable decay. Thanks for sharing the pics, I look forward to seeing how it turns out!
