That gun would probably be a great gun for birds and occasional clays with the right loads. You mentioned that it really kicks. It wasn't meant to shoot standard American 1 1/8 oz. loads. Those loads really kick in light doubles and can damage your stock. Try 1 oz. loads of about 1150 fps. I think Rio and Fiocchi make these at a very reasonable price.

Even lower grade Spanish guns can be good guns.
