Miller, correct on all counts. My 25 3" hulls and the complete reloading kit arrived today by USPS and beat the estimated time by a day. I await the OSC delivery. Gil

Hi all, well a break through on this subject. RST has done it again. My friend just told me that RST is going to run a batch of low pressure (6200psi) 2 1/2" for him. I'll tell you what, that's some kind of customer service! He called them and asked about LP .410 loads and they said they would be happy to load some for him.
If any of you are looking for LP .410 loads, you may want to give RST a call.

Gil Gil; Nothing amazing about that. The smaller the bore (Except for that 3˝" 12) the heavier folks want to load it in relation to bore size. To get a really good low pressure load in 12ga one usually loads one(1) oz. A proportional load in .410 would be 5/16oz yet almost everyone with a .410 wants a 3" shell carrying 3/4oz of shot or at least 11/106 oz if they use a plastic shot cup. Even the lowly ˝oz .410 load is proportional to the 3" 12 with 1 5/8oz shot yet its crammed into a 2˝" shell. Pressure is not just proportional to the weight of shot being pushed, but to the weight of shot in relation to the size hole its being pushed through & of course to how fast you push it.

Miller, it IS amazing, because pressure is not directly proportional to payload and velocity. I know that you are aware of that. The manufacturers could still load .410s at the same velocities, with the same payloads, but at lower pressures, if they wanted to. The "technology" is there to do that. SRH

Alliant's online guide has loads listed for the 2 1/2" Remington hull:
1250 fps - 6000 psi
1300 fps - 6800 psi
It only took me 1 minute to find this load - I'm sure that I could find more with a little more searching.
Low pressure with reasonable velocities is doable.

That is true of some powders, Gil. Particularly IMR 7625, as I recall. I have loaded it for years with no problems, but Miller (and others) has said that he has had bloopers with it. Probably the difference in the temps between here and VA during the hunting seasons. I"ll bet'cha I am on the "edge" of having pressures low enough to cause problems in lower temps, at 5800 psi.
