Well, living in the"Western Desert", ;), I can assure you, that there were and still are plenty of waterfowl on the shore of the North Sea, Baltic Sea and the numerous lakes, especially in Mecklenburg Vorpommern (north-east).... And they did so in 1578, always with guns, as to be seen here:

My guess, the Triebel was a spoil of war and made it's way with a british soldier to Egypt, were it met some of the migrant birds coming from Germany in winter again smile
