I find this interesting: How many times have we uttered the "I don't ever plan on selling it" phrase after we snatch the [then] gun of our dreams? And yet, after a few years, what happens? It's newness and fascination begins to wear off, and we begin to entertain thoughts of "what if I traded it in on such and such?"

Is our proclivity to never be satisfied reduced when we get into the higher grades, or does the Optimus owner still wonder, "what if?" We humans are certainly [cretinly?] curious creatures.

I have a list of "not for sales". The horsefly in the yogurt is they are lefthanded anyway, and will probably be given away someday. I guess I'm betting on that Alerus IRA, and the union pension, rather than the uncollectable guns I own...

My cal. .375RLNEHHM no. 35071 is staying till I can hunt no more. The quality, size, balance, and weight (9.4lb for gun, scope, sling + 4 cartridges) is perfect. I bought 300 rounds of ammo for it before recent price hike.

I own a 16ga 30" Westley that I've had for 9 years now. It fits me perfectly and I will never ever regret selling it because I won't. It will go to my first grandchild.

I dont buy a lot of guns, I've never bought a gun that I want to sell so I've never sold a gun. Part of that is probably luck, in that I never found myself really dissapointed with a buy.

I guess that makes me an accumulator, not a collector.

I did trade a Ruger revolver for a decoy once, a nice Old Saybrook, Conn Wildfowler.....

I have just two guns I will not sell. My first rifle (Win Model 61) and my Dad's only rifle (Win 94). Their value is 100% sentimental. Everything else in the safe is quite eligible and has been through several consolidations/rotations of the stock. But the Parkers, Winchesters, Lindner Daly, Krieghoffs, B Rizzinni, Shiloh Sharps are all in the flow.

I'm down with that Jerry. I have one gun (my DCM Winchester Garand)promised to a grandson. Any of the rest could go at a moments notice. Collector no-recyler yes.

The Parkers, the pre-64 Win. M-70 FW .30-06 and several others which belonged to my Grampa, my Dad and an Uncle or two will go to my (now) 17-year old Grand Daughter, who already appreciates them and used her late Grandmother's pre-64 M-70 FW .243 to take a couple nice Texas white tail bucks off the place last fall. Others are promised to the son-in-law and the step-daughter. Then there are those which could be traded at any time, but probably will wind up staying in the Grand Daughter's gun safe in time.

It's nice to know that the important ones with family ties will remain so, and will still see days afield or at the guin club.
Equally nice is the fact that I have some that I can use to improve the overall quality of the denizens of my gun safe.

ONe thing to keep in mind is not to leave your widow with a pile of guns, whether of high value or low. They are generally a pain in the arse for the family to deal with and often end up being sold for much less than the family man envisioned.

Plan ahead. Put your guns in a living trust or will or start thinning them out as you see your interest in them decline.
