Friends:
Brown and White is what is expected on a Brit gun. I believe the coloring is even mentioned in Greener's "The Gun and Its Development", and this was Oscars conclusion as well.
An American gun most likely ( I am not qualified to comment on Lefevers, really, except that the one damascus Lefever I owned was black and white in the protected areas under the fore-end, and the remainder was purply brown)will be black and white.
My 1892 Prussian Schilling has a much faded black and white finish, which is eveident in the protected areas.
If you want it to be right, that's the first question I would ask - what color?
