I'm not a sidelock expert, but it doesn't take much force to index a screw thru that short arc with a lever. If there is any spring in the sidelock plate, it may have just been slightly over tightened and needs to be backed off. If it is a big concern, it would probably make a good thread question by itself and get a number of the smiths to comment. I'd be curious in their response and it may put your mind at ease.

Doesn't look like there is any carry wear in front of the trigger guard in that pic. Like you, the round body is my preference.
