Nah lonesome, I don't know enough about what actually happened on Kennedy's end to have an opinion. Buying Judges ain't as easy as some folks might think...Geo I am not so sure- ever read "The Godfather"? How about insider/lawyer/writer John Grisham's books-Judges are subject to the same temptations us "common folk" encounter from time to time--and there isn't any jury that can't be "influenced"-- And you don't have to have the Machiavellian op. handbook to do it either. I don't know Mr. Kennedy, so I won't judge, but only God owns the rivers- as He owns the seas and oceans- all moving bodies of water, whether fresh or saline in nature-Not man--

Yep L.R., much worse! Sticks and Stones baby. It helps to have a thick skin if you want to hang around here. Lacking that, you can always cry like a little girl and complain to Dave until he locks a thread or deletes the whole damn thing. THAT feminine whining and complaining during hunting season was the reason he placed Misfires on the sidelines. It wasn't due to potty-mouth language, and it sure wasn't because of anything Jim posted as King Brown tried to say last week. Jim hadn't even posted anything on Misfires for several months, so that dishonest accusation was especially interesting. Not at all surprising though. But Dave took the time to explain why he sequestered the Misfires, so it shouldn't be a mystery to anyone. I hope it comes back so all this off-topic stuff has a more suitable place. Until that happens, we'll just have to remind folks that Obama and Hillary are anti-gunners here. Did I say that? Excuse moi.

Just got my new issue of the DU mag- no more Donnall Thomas, that;s for sure-replaced by Doug Larsen for the LAST CALL finis article- back pages--Any idiot who would string an electrified fence wire across any river, no matter if he owns both sides of said waterway- is asking for a major league lawsuit-trespass be damned. When I was about 15, hunting with Dad and Granddad with retired judge Boardman on his private 180 acres farm near Rives Junction, with Ralph Woodhurst, gun room manager at Smith & Winchester back then- former top live bird shot as well- The Judge winged a big rooster, which flew right across the neighboring fence-and that property owner had it posted. MI law states that you have to have the owners' permission, even to retrieve wounded game that you lawfully shot- so Dad volunteered me to hike around the owner's fence line to get permission, while he held the 20 gauge Model 12 that was my 13th Birthday present (I still have it)-- The "Lady of the house" was at home, her husband had gone to the elevator with a load of corn- I told her that if we were able, with the Judge's fine Shorthair, to retrieve that wounded bird, we would clean it and give it to her and her husband (who didn't bird hunt) for a Sunday dinner, and she said "OK" go right ahead. The bird couldn't outrun Judge Boardman's dog, we dispatched it and field dressed it, and gave it to her. It was the only rooster we put up all day, the rest were hens and quails- at that time, quail were protected- but due to that, we obtained permission to hunt his 120 adjoining acreage, and next year MI opened a quail season concurrent with the pheasant season. The best move any serious and ethical hunter can make is to obtain and keep good landowner relations- like money in the bank!! Two things: Run - the way your granddad, dad and the Judge handled the wounded rooster was both the exact right way and the textbook solution. The only rub is when no one is home at the landowner's house. 2. As to the electric fence - I came across that trying to get on the Ruby back in 93. The landowner - don't know who it was - ran it to the bridge abutment. As with lots of bridges out that way, the deepest spots usually are the bridge holes and this one was no exception. The banks were near vertical and full of pencil-sized willows - nothing to grab onto - and the water went from zero to over the top of the waders in less than the length of my boot. It was prime trout water crossed by a public road and one where the law said I as a license-buying member of the fishing public, had every right to enter. Only that landowner had crafted things so it was impossible. I suspect these days they probably have drones and guards with 270s to back it up, but the electric fence ended that part of the day for me.

[quote=lonesome roads]I, for one, don't give a sh*t whether one can retrieve a fackin' bird or not on somebody's property in Georgia. Sounds like it would be a fine practice for a young go gettin' up and coming lawyer to keep us Yankee sports from running afoul of Boss Hogg and Roscoe P. Coltrane, eh geo? I'd be somewhat more interested, Stan, on your opinion of the moral quandry DU finds itself in over the firing of Mr. Thomas. Or old colonel, what you think it says of the character of someone who would string an electrified wire across a river to keep people out? Or buying judges?
I do not know Mr Kennedy, doubt I will ever meet him. For that matter I do not know Mr Thomas, though I have read at least one of his books. It takes me more than the little data in evidence to condemn mr K's character even though it is tempting to do so.
I do not like the ease that people seem to possess in attacking others personally in the media and online. I know there are evil no good, lying, scumbags out there and when I have sufficient proof by their words and actions in evidence, I am happy to call it I as I see it.
I sometimes wish those in the public arena would still duel,
In answer to your question, I do not know he brought a judge, if he did it does not appear to work well, whereas paying lawyers to drag it out maybe working for a bit.
Further, it is his money, inherited or not for him to contribute, whether I agree with his politics or positions. Which on the subjrect of access I do not.
I believe the article stated he wired the bank by the bridge on what I suppose is the erroneous belief he had a right to. He did not run the wire across the river halting the waterway.
It is unfortunate he has the resources to drag it all out, but that is our system in terms of going to court.
I reaffirm my belief in the public access andnot in Mr K's l gal position. I also reaffirm my reading that I can see how Mr Thomas got crosswise with the DU leadership by what i read as a personal character attack.
