I always find it amazing that you could supposedly sneak up on ducks and get within range. The only way that can be done here is illegal, and that is by using an outboard. For some reason the sound must disorient them at times as you can run right up on them before they fly. I've never done this, as it is an expedient way to get a room in the house of many doors, but I have run up on them many times without a gun in the boat. When I am drifting, the instant I come into view as I round a bend, the ducks that see me are in the air without a split second's delay. Keep in mind that I am in full camouflage .............hands, face, everything ......... and am motionless except for the movement of the kayak drifting with the current. Woodies, big ducks, doesn't matter, they're gone at my sight whether at 25 yards or 250.
