I'll try to answer the questions as best I can.

Mark, the cutters in a style very much like the original W.E Brownell cutters, they are not the file type.

Keith, I didn't mention a name simple because I DO NOT want this to be a problem with Dave. I don't care what other people do. If you want the name just email me or PM me and I will be very happy to give it to you.

Sam mentioned Michael Ullman's carbide cutters. I use them all the time for my work and they are great. They are, however, for deepening not spacing.

Bobby, I saw first hand how old time smiths made their own checkering spacers. That whole idea of annealing sharpening checking the spacing, sharpening then hardening just does not appeal to me. I might try to sharpen these cutters once with a stone and then I pitch them after, it's just a matter of economics.

BTW, I will not be making getting any compensation for the sale of any of these cutters. I'm just trying to help a good friend since I'm the one that convinced him that he should make them.

Doug, thanks for taking the time to reply. PM sent.

I agree with what you said about home-made checkering tools. I've seen a lot of them that range from crude to nicely done. But I don't think the old time smiths who made them would have taken the considerable time to do that if they had the luxury of being able to order tools and cutters of consistent quality at a reasonable cost from places like Brownells.

Does anyone know of a source for sharpening of the carbide cutters for MMC electric checkering tools?

Thanks very much Bill. I have a couple that could use a touch-up.
