I'll try to answer the questions as best I can.
Mark, the cutters in a style very much like the original W.E Brownell cutters, they are not the file type.
Keith, I didn't mention a name simple because I DO NOT want this to be a problem with Dave. I don't care what other people do. If you want the name just email me or PM me and I will be very happy to give it to you.
Sam mentioned Michael Ullman's carbide cutters. I use them all the time for my work and they are great. They are, however, for deepening not spacing.
Bobby, I saw first hand how old time smiths made their own checkering spacers. That whole idea of annealing sharpening checking the spacing, sharpening then hardening just does not appeal to me. I might try to sharpen these cutters once with a stone and then I pitch them after, it's just a matter of economics.
BTW, I will not be making getting any compensation for the sale of any of these cutters. I'm just trying to help a good friend since I'm the one that convinced him that he should make them.
