Finally placed the order for Tony Treadwell's hardcover. Really should have done this long ago. Ordered a extra copy for a Christmas gift to my gunsmith. It will lighten the drudge with having to make a mainspring for a Spanish side lock I have. Reviews are excellent and I know we both will enjoy the book. Followed his posts and liked the varied projects he undertook.

It is a nice book with some good information. But most of all it is a reminder of a friend I never met. Tony Treadwell was a great asset to this community and he is remembered...Geo

one little warning on a typo (at least in my early copy)- if you decide to brown barrels - in the book - the etching mix says 2 mugs of copper sulfate- that gave a very deep etching when I did it (after a few years of lots of handling it has worn well)

on his web site - it said two to three tablespoons lol -- a little lighter mix and much better results

as he had little time to get this to press and much on his mind- accidents happen- over all- I truly enjoyed the book and will be referencing it often

I never met anyone like Tony. Here was a fellow who I never met in person, and only knew a short while, yet I still looked upon Tony as a good friend.

Geo. you are very right. I miss Tony which is funny as I never met him in person. Exchanged notes, emails and messages but never in person. Which is both the best and worst of this type of board. You meet some fine people but rarely take the time to meet them in person or perhaps never have the opportunity to. Tony passed within a few days of my brother and I miss them both. Tony we knew for too long we would loose as he was open about his fight against cancer. My brother's death was unexpected but just as certain in hind sight. Tony fought a very rare form of cancer bravely while my brother, who was a brilliant person, ignored half a dozen warning signs before dying decades before his time.

His book is a nice read and I have read if front to back several times. I bought several copies and gave all but two of them away. He was a very talented man who gave freely and added a lot to this board. He is in my top five of board members.

Might be a good time for someone with the information to post how to order the book.

Click on the link and you are at the correct page.

This is a link to a bbc program Tony did just before his death explaining his loves of guns, shooting, family and restoring old guns. Worth a listen and it shows what a brave man can do in spite of Cancer.

I once bought the electronic copy of his book but the drive it was stored on crashed. Any ideas on how I can get it back?

Thanks.
I try to remember Tony each time I go out to hunt, and that he might have liked to go along.
Gone too young and far too soon.
