Cogswell & Harrison Guns. Still in business in London and one of the few that made most of the gun in-house. They did go through a period when quality did not live up to expectations and thereby developed a bad name for some hence their guns can be picked up quite cheap here. There is a book called Cogswell & Harrison two Centuries of Gunmaking by Graham Cooley & John Newton that you may like to source.
Diggory Hadoke mentions the proof problems with Avant Tout boxlocks in his book. I bought a decent specimen of a boxlock ejector 12 bore made in 1892 cased for just 200 as it was Black Powder Proof. The risk being re-proof for nitro as a B.P. boxlock had little re-sale appeal. It passed without problem. Nice handy little light weight gun and worth the risk as it turned out. I think it was action cracking that was the weakness in this particular model. Lagopus.....
Didn't they also build guns for other as well? If I recall correctly the early Holland & Holland guns?
