I suppose I can understand people who smoke, after all my Dad smoked 2-3 packs a day until he dropped dead of a massive heart attack at 69. I tried smoking when I was about 10 or 11 while hanging out with kids 2-3 years older than me. I enjoyed smoking and the associated camaraderie, what I didnt enjoy was the stale cigarette taste that accumulated in my mouth and throat after a few days, YIIICK! However, I suppose if Id been diligent I couldve gotten used to it, thank god I didnt. Yesterday I went with friends on a 6-mile hike in the mountains surrounding Bisbee AZ. Southeast Arizona once again showed me that its truly no country for old men. Nonetheless I finished the hike, but I doubt if that I wouldve had I been a lifelong smoker.

My experience mirrors pretty much what Rockdoc has described. Pop lasted only until 67 the victim of Camels and Pall Mall's since age 13. I started smoking as a soph in high school but only lasted a couple of years...My attempts at chewing always ended in breaking out in a cold sweat and the dry heaves smile
I worked for years in a drafting room where smoking was the norm. The buddy next to me smoked a strange shaped briar pipe stuffed with something call County Cork (Court)? if memory serves me correctly. Smelled great tasted like schiznit the only time I tried it.

Again, big difference crom a 2-3 pack a day cigarette habit and a two bowl a day pipe smoker. Quit cigs over 30 years ago on the advice of my Uncle Jack; smoked a pipe and drank Irish whiskey every day. LIVED to 93. I'm a 300 Army PFT'er. Smoke and drink every day. Very moderately, I might add!

Hope you had sunscreen on Rockdoc! SPF 75, right, buzz?

For years I ordered everything from McCranie's in Charlotte, NC...

www.mccranies.com

However, Jacob Liquor opened a tobacco shop adjacent to their store on North Rock Road in Wichita a few years back, so now most everything is available locally.

Haha, now that you mention sunscreen LR, well that's not a bad idea either. Actually, I'm not terribly surprised that many folks poopooh the warnings about smoking .....I've had sick patients actually get hostile when I've advised them to stop smoking. More than once I've seen patients on ventilators (the iron lungs) ask to be unhooked so they could have a smoke.....,,now that is addiction at the pinnacle. Yes, tobacco is extremely addictive.

I'm glad I don't use tobacco products, but I don't mind others enjoying it.

It's probably going to be just me, but out in the field, I don't run into many smokers at all, very rare. I don't have a concrete reason for it, but I always preferred to not have tobacco products or use around the bird dogs. I always thought even though the dogs can deal with it, it's a strong competing scent.
