No matter what, and whatever kind of tobacco, pipe, cigars, cigarettes......whatever.....it's dangerous. As a a doctor, it's my DUTY to warn you. There is not one good thing about tobacco. It kills human beings, no matter the type of smoke, it causes heart disease, COPD including emphysema, multiple cancers, peripheral arterial disease, et. al. Do your best to quit, no matter the type. You CAN quit! If I was King, I would outlaw all tobacco products. Alas, I'm not a king, so all I can do is warn you. Quit....before it's too late. A good friend of mine who I miss a lot was a dermatologist whose nickname was Buzz. He disappeared into Alzheimers and died much too young.

Buzz ,I agree ...but then again we all just got a big warning about bacon ,ham and other processed meats , egg's are bad too ,and then so is milk , whisky will burn your guts out and tear up your liver ,the air we breath is full of exhaust fumes on our way to work (well most folks ,I work 20 feet from the house ) we may get cancer from the stuff we put on our lawns and gardens ...we plant those gardens to grow healthy food so we don't have to but the crap at the market ,who knows what they put on that !!! and the meat isle at Costco ,Chrissakes I seen a pork loin there as big as my friggin leg,no joke !!! I grew up on a small farm and never seen a locally grown pig you could cut that from not even if you tied four together !!! so I guess well all be getting something from that too I write all this tongue in cheek of course ,I don't doubt your professional opinion ...I also worked for years in a major funeral business ,I know full well where we all end up from fat, skinny ,healthy or not what can get us in the end is almost never what we or others expect ,my cousin for instance at 34 just had surgery for tongue cancer ,prognosis is real good at this point ,but hes never smoked ,drank very, very little ...chewed a lot of gum though and he blames it on that - because his Dr. is baffled as to the trigger in an otherwise healthy individual . Everything in moderation ? ..I mean if an individual is prone to throat or lung cancer I guess he's really taking a gamble filling that bowl , cirrhosis of the liver in your genes, then perhaps take it real easy on the Jamisons ...high cholesterol ? maybe don't eat eggs every day ...Like I said Buzz I don't really disagree ,but..... Yes James ,we do have trees ...perhaps that's where the friggin Ptarmigan are poked away at ...there's none on the barrens that's for damn sure ,worst season ever! Enjoy Christmas with your gun ,fill a bowl and a glass with her ,tell her a story about how good she done ,tell her it wont be too long before she feels as good as new . No harm intended guys ,just having a lark Chris

My uncle, Dr. Morris, did mouth cancer research for the government back in the 60's and he smoked a pipe his whole life. He didn't die from cancer. Go figure.

I'm sure Buzz is right, but all things in moderation, eh? My Pete's are my favorites, and contrary to some I really like the P-lip; all of mine have it save one, and I wish it did too. I don't smoke every day, but when I do it's a typically something like this:

True re moderation.......the problem is, tobacco is very, very addictive. Pretty easy to go from moderation to addiction. That's when the trouble begins. Also, it's easy to say other things cause cancer so let's just roll the dice and go ahead and smoke. I ask myself 'why would anyone have that sentiment when it is proven without a doubt just how harmful and carcinogenic tobacco is?' Denial, addiction or what? This may sound cold, but I have actually told emphysema patients, "you may as well put a pistol in your mouth as another cigarette. Same end, one just works a bit faster than the other." ;-)

The fact that everyone who smokes doesn't get cancer doesn't impact the fact that it might be more likely that you'll have heart disease, kidney disease, or peripheral vascular disease and eventually have a stroke or heart attack. I'm more afraid of stroke than a number of other eventual ailments. I don't want to wind up as a prisoner in my own body. Even if you don't wind up with paralysis, there is a condition called multi-stroke dementia that is the equivalent of Alzheimer's disease. My friend I mentioned above, Buzz, the dermatologist, was thin and fit, never smoked or drank and disappeared in to a terrible disease; Alzheimer's. His mother died from Alzheimer's. Heredity it tough to overcome.

Agreed, genetic predisposition plays an enormous role.
