Let's say a guy wants to try his hand with a hammer gun, but does not want to spend a ton of cash and wants to be able to shoot modern factory loads. What types of hammer guns would you recommend looking for that might be available for $500-$1500 and could handle modern, factory loads?
Also, let's say money is less of a concern and a new hammer gun was the goal. Who, if anyone, makes hammer guns that cost less than your average new car?
As always, thanks.

Last week I saw a Huglu Hammer gun, CZ marked I believe - pretty fair looking gun for the money ~800 bucks. Unfortunately it was a "Coach Gun". If they whipped out some full length gun, especially in the smaller guages I would buy one.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

Newlyn: What do you want to do with it (mostly)? Heavy, light, open, tight? TT

Give Mark Beasland from Mark's Born Again Birdguns a toll-free call at 1-866-MBABGUN(1-866-622-2486) evenings. You can visit his website at: http://www.mbabllc.com He probably has several hammerguns available which are not shown on his website that will fall within your budget. Tell him Mr. B sent you.

Newlyn,
Double check the so called hammer guns. I have seen some versions that were simply standard box locks with external cocking hammers.
The hammers did not fall in a firing pin They simply came to rest on a hammer stop. I believe these were inexpensive short barrelled for the cowboy action trade.
I guess it depends on how traditional you want to be.
Good luck RPr

I wanted to try the same thing and was very tempted to buy the hammergun on Marks website (guns for sale page number 15-17).
Seems like the current manufacture hammerguns are either coachguns or very expensive customs.
