stan: this thread is not the proper place to discuss my business practices...however, what you state here is incorrect. i have always had a return policy in my gun dealings, since the early 1980's... my return policy is one of the reasons why i have a 99% plus feedback record on gunbroker.com, as seller ed1, since 2001.

somewhere in the archives of this forum one may find another thread where we discussed your purchase of a bss from me, which was also an improper use of this forum...as i recall, your scenario was different then...as in, you found a problem with the gun, but chose not contact me about it?...by the way, how long ago was this deal? ten years maybe? hope that gun is still working for you? do you want another one? just got in a 30" bss that needs some wood refinishing.

No, Ed, it was not. Look back and you will see it is EXACTLY the same. You either are lying now, or you lied to me over the phone when we talked about it, or your memory sucks. As I recall, you were on the way to Hilton Head Is., SC. Remember that?

Probably not. It seems your memory is selective.

As to this not being the place to discuss your business practices, I won't if you will stop making statements that misrepresent your return "policy".

stan: i have never been to hilton head...too ritzy for my tastes...maybe it is you who is having memory issues?

and being from georgia, you should know better than to publically say a man is lying...but then, you may not be a native georgian, just as i am not a native of nh...

and do not contact me re the bss mentioned above. it aint fur you.

Can you even READ, ed? I bought the gun from you, and it was not as you described. And you DID tell me over the phone that I could not return it. I was sitting in the parking lot of the Southern Bank in Waynesboro, GA, getting ready to go in and get you a cashier's check when we talked. And, you did say you were on the way to Hilton Head. Maybe you weren't, but you said you were.

And, read closer, I said that you were either lying, OR, your memory sucks. Perhaps,it is the latter.

Wasn't their someone on here who bought a gun which was off face and couldn't return it? An NID maybe. Hummmm. Need to go back thru the archives and refresh my memory. There was definitely a reason for avoiding ed1 on gunbroker.

guess its time to post this here again:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewUserFeedback.aspx?User=128526

and here is my long standing return policy:

RETURN POLICY: Returns are handled on an individual basis. You can expect that i know what I am selling. You are expected to know what you are buying. All items are guaranteed to be as advertised. If I make a gross error in description, you may of course, return item with my apology.

Here is the thread you referred to, Ed. Whose memory is bad? I copied this and pasted it directly from the archives. Post #382699.

"ed,

Doing business with you, the one time that I did, taught me to never, ever buy a gun over the 'net without the 3 day inspection period. You may not recall, but roughly 6 years ago you had a 30" BSS advertised for around $1100 and some change, as I recall. I called you and you were on the way to Hilton Head, or somewhere like that. When I asked you, you basically told me, "no returns, I sell good quality stuff that no one would want to return". In a moment of weakness, I took the bait and bit. The BSS would not recock the right barrel when I tried it out on sporting clays. Knowing I had agreed on your policy I bit the bullet, sent it to Jim Kelly in Darlington, SC who fixed it. I have shot it a great deal, but will never forget my lesson learned. I don't want others to have to learn the way I did, by "buying" my education at the school of hard knocks. I made a mistake, and paid for it. It would not have been right, or honorable, for me to call you and complained after I had agreed to your terms. I played right into your hand, and paid for it. Lesson learned.

When I started this thread I had no intention of mentioning this, but since you exhibited disagreement with my premise, and insist on defending what is an asinine argument, here ya' go.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

and it puzzles me that so many sellers on the net do not offer a return policy...

You opened the door. Stan had every right.

After your postings here, when I see ed1 in an ad on GB I look like a ricochet. Off I go.
Just curious, I have a cousin in NH that I may visit around Christmas. Do you have store hours?

Ed - if there ever was a thread that proved you are a troll, this is it. Go away.

Muchatrucha - I don't think your question can be asked generically. If the gun is a pristine pre-war Boss, the forcing cone work and the proof issue will have a big impact on value. If it is a $1500 gamekeeper shooter, the impact could be de minimis if the gun can be shot safely.

col: proof laws aint about gun weight. but are about maintaining a standard of barrel quality in order to protect consumers?

maybe proof laws are a hang over from the days of twist steel barrels, when barrel making was a cottage industry of varying quality? perhaps, now that fluid steel is the barrel making material of choice, proof laws are redundant?

and why is the question regarding proof laws in non european gun making centers silly? dont they too want to protect their consumers?

any other opinions re lack of proof laws outside of europe?
