I agree with Steve, for the most part. The pin will actually weaken the joint a bit, but not enough to matter and if it helps you sleep at night then it's worth it.
I agree, epoxied repairs seldom if ever come apart if
properly prepared. Usually, close inspection of a failed repair will reveal the failure's actually next to the repair. The SS pin is a cover-your-butt for the
properly prepared part of the job.
