Made my regular pawn and gun shop rounds yesterday and late Friday. Hard to do with multiple kids games and wifely duties. Mostly junk, but you do find some interesting things if you get lucky.

One shop always has a few doubles had a high condition Crescent .410 that I have been looking for a upgrade project. This one is so nice I might just keep looking. Last shop said he had another .410 for me. Now two .410s in a year is a treat from these shops as 90% are 12 gauge klunkers, Stevens, ect... worn out shooters. Not sure I have seen two .410 in the last two years combined.

Dealer told me it had to be a Ithaca nitro special .410. Told me it was not marked Lefever as some of the later ones were not marked. I said that I would look at it but that I had already bought a .410 the same day. Pawn shop was right it was not marked Lefever or Nitro Special because Ithaca did not mark their NIDs that way. No closet queen to be sure, but it has to be a solid 70-80% gun. Seller wanted $1,100.00 for the gun. I made the mistake of just plunking down the money once with this dealer and the prices just about went double for six months. Hard not to just give him the money and run but I had to dickered with him for several minutes. At one point I almost had traded the Crescent .410 and $200.00 for the gun but the dealer decided he wanted money more than another gun. No surprise for me at that response. Ended up paying $850.00 for the gun.

So I ended up with two .410s and both were bargins to boot. Saw sons play in five baseball games and they went 4 for 5 in victories and batted something over .750 for the weekend. Hard to get much better. And my wife thought I was in such a good mood because I got to see the boys play well.

An NID .410 for $850??? WOW. Congratulations.

You know it's stories like this that keep me pawing through the used gun racks at all of the little guns shops I come across in my travels, and visiting the local pawn shops at least twice a year.

Speaking of .410s, several years ago, I got a phone call very late at night.... Oh never mind, it's a boring story.

Do you still have that Remington 1100 410 on a standard frame? I still have a Simmons 1100 12/.410 illusion barrel with a Cutts on it. Not likely to find another gun for it anytime soon no matter how many Pawn shops I go into. But first tell us about the late night call. All my late night calls are from my kids needing money or someone calling me to let me know one of my old hunting buddies has been over the limit for the last time.

Both of my standard frame .410 1100s, a Purbaugh and a Simmons, are under the weather, hopefully not from breakage of non Remington parts. They both worked great until they quit. My "illusion" barrel is actually a 20 gauge, but, of course, the receiver is the standard 20, which is actually a 12. I guess I should take them apart to see what's going on. Actually, there were two late night calls, from two different people, about two different .410s. One call was to ask a favor. A friend a couple of states to the south had been asked to inspect and appraise a .410 for someone who apparently lived closer to me than to my friend. He asked if I would give the guy a call. I did that, finding that this fellow lived about five blocks from where I was working at the time in Bethesda, MD. I visited, wrote the appraisal at no cost because of the entertainment value. Not too long afterward, the gentleman called and asked if I would be interested in purchasing the little .410 VHE Skeet for somewhat less than my apparently fair appraisal. He had shopped it around, had a backup appraisal done at Butterfields, and decided I needed a new skeet gun. End of story.
