I still own the acreage in PA and it has alot of 18" chestnuts on it.......
I spoke to a forester and he mentioned a genetically altered chestnut that is immune to the blight. Even if that is true, it will be out great-grandchildren who will get to see them in full glory.
The home my mother was raised in was built in the early 19th century. Two stories, two rooms per story. All exterior walls built of chestnut logs and sided with chestnut planks. I watched it burn with no idea that I was watching a waste of a valuable resource.
