I picked this up at a estate sale quite a few years ago and have found near zero info on it. The owner let his nephew take it apart but remarkably it still functions well and is in good shape for 100 plus year old gun. Everyone who knows about antique guns says it appears to be pre WWI and it's a 9.2 or 9.3 mm rifle barrel and judging by the shell holders on the but probably 72mm long. One fella said Scherell mainly made double shotguns but he had never heard of a drilling by him.
Everything on the gun is engraved except the barrels and there are many
cartouche's on the receiver and under the barrels and the only thing I've defined just a couple one being it is certianly German and the other proof tested. Everything else seems to be a mystery. Even to RIA and James D Julia, if they did know anything about it they didn't share and made a quite frankly offencive offer and what they though was the value. I have had on offer substantially higher from a old collector who just wanted it to hang on his wall.
Here are some pics and I'll post more on how I fixed the right shotgun firing pin and my thoughts on how to fabracate and install the live barrel indicators (that the nephew lost).

Hello 3052472994
And WELCOME on your first posting.

I surely do enjoy shooting drillings, what fun, what fun.
Congratulations on getting the old girl up and shooting!

We would be able to tell you more if the pictures of the
proof marks were a bit more clear.

BUT thank you for posting pictures in the first place smile

Is there an address on the barrel after Scherell ?

Enjoy the day
Mike

That's the Ballistol cat & all the info is here onsite:

O.G. Scherell Berlin Potsdamerstraße 104 & Delitzsch(barrel address)

Looks like a Roux Drilling from 1905 sourced from mechancics in Zella-Mehlis & tube steel from the Schilling forge

In addition to the info Raimey provided, the numbers 118.35 is the bore(not groove or bullet)diameter expressed in gauge. They didn't start using mm measurements for this until later(around 1911-12). The crown W on the right shotgun barrel, means it is choked, but the amount of choke is not shown. The marked bore diameter is consistent with your idea that the caliber is 9.3x72R( a chamber cast would show, for sure). There are 3 different marks( in gauge)found on 9.3x72Rs, this one is often found on those with .358-.359" groove diameter. If you handload, bullets of this diameter are readily available. The 16 in a circle means the gun is chambered for 16 ga. 2 1/2-2 9/16" shells, rather than the current standard 2 3/4".

A Zella Sankt Blasii - Mehlis Roux underlever drilling more than likely will realize a value between $1000 - $1500 U.S. of A. Make a wax chamber cast & slut the bore of the solid projectile tube & you will ferret out the calibre demon.

Kind Regards,
