Sometimes you need to wait to get the deal you are looking for. I just completed purchase on a gun I first inquired about in 2011.
I waited a lot longer for one of my 410 NID guns. I first saw it on the net about 7 years before I bought it. It was a 28" ejector 410 NID. I made an offer that was declined. It didn't sell for a couple years and finally the seller started dropping the price. It went below my offer and I was about to contact him when it disappeared off the net. I think a member here bought it. Roll forward 5 years, I was in Seattle on business and one evening, drove an hour southeast to a little village where this gun store was. They had some interesting doubles listed from time to time on the net. Also they had a Win 42 listed I was interested in. I got there around dark and the owner and I were the only people in the place. We struck up a conversation on old guns and I brought up the 410 NID he had listed 5 years earlier. He was surprised I recalled that gun. Then he surprised me when he said he still had it. He went in the back and brought it out. I looked it over and bought it.
So yeah, I've waited a bit for some guns.
A few years later, I spotted a new listing for a 28" ejector NID 410. I had only seen one 28" 410 NID before...mine. I called right away and asked to verify the barrel length and ejectors. After that we discussed condition and a price. When it arrived, I noted the serial number was 3 digits from the first gun. I contacted Walt and he gave me the history of them being produced on the same shop order, but sold to opposite coasts.
I believe Walt said these are the only 28" 410 NIDs he's aware of. The only ones I've seen were 26". I thought Dave Noreen may have mentioned he saw a 28" 410 NID decades ago.
Back together after nearly 90 years.
