The cherry Popsicle stick, first used by Joe on early English doubles, closely matches the alkanet root red stain. However, the section of the stick not stained by the cherry sickle should be wrapped in a 3 oz pigskin. To match the intensity of the color, a licking technique is used. 3-5 licks, followed by a check against the stock should be done. Alternatively, a double sided slurp method can be used to adjust the color. Finishes used run from shellac to varnish and lacquer. But authentic traditional finish is a baked egg white finish.
This was all covered in the original manuscript of Shotgun Technicana, when David Trevallion and McIntosh interviewed Joe on this device. But a legal battle ensued over the division of royalties anticipated to be generated from the device, and it was struck from the book at the eleventh hour before the presses began, at the ruling of the 9th district federal court in wood vs Trevallion. Over the years, Trevallion has managed to outmaneuver wood. You have to go through all that to get one of these???

Only if you want the DIY build/repair/refurbish notes. You can also do an upgrade and adapt by grafting the butt-piece from a Magnum or Dove bar onto the plain-jane version previously described. ..and of course you can go directly to the factory to order a bespoke version or even the generic off-the-shelf one with the usual markup, wait and paperwork.
