...found on the outside of a hammer gun; its the little screw-in bushing that holds the firing pin. What's it called? Thanks!

David is correct: if you are talking about the hex or square headed striker (aka firing pin) retainer then it is a nipple.
The perpendicular pin that retains a striker by engaging a slot or recess in the striker is called a striker retainer in my book but I have no doubt there are myriad other terms in use.
