I am currently in possession of a Parker 12 that has a connection to Leopold. I think he owned it and sold it to a hunting buddy. It would explain the Parker documented in his patterning logs.
Lots of work to do before we can track it back. It has been interesting talking with you guys.

Great picture but that is one funny looking spaniel........ As you note, not likely a spaniel, more likely a german shorthair pointer Noted as a gsp in Drew's post. Had me worried at first. Thought spaniels were getting prettier. I think Steve made a funny.

Interesting article by Tom Davis on page 146 of the current Sporting Classics, titled Aldo Leopold's Fox.

I think the article in Sporting Classics this month maybe the same article from DGJ last year. Not positive without looking it up.

The story in DGJ was by Nania, the one by Davis pretty similar. The DGJ story has a ton of photos. Both good stories. I like the whole thing where the Leopold Foundation is publicly embracing Leopold's history as a lifelong hunter and shooter. This can only be good for our traditions. Things have changed some since Leopold recorded his adventures in his journal. One log of species taken included several doves and a Coopers Hawk.
