JNW's treatment is mor to my taste than the original post Ruger. Understated, ribless, light weight. Nice.
I wonder if there would be enough demand for such limited customising to make it worth while for a smith to specialise.

NO.....the old silk purse adage.... but then there is the one born every minute adage....and Iv seen some of THEM pop a bigger one for a Ruger than for their favorite single malt beverage.....in a wet T shirt.....

Why would anybody want to upgrade a Ruger?

same reasons why one would want a parker dh grade gun when they could have a vh grade gun or a specialty grade smith instead of a field grade smith? price and prestige? perceived value?

If you want all the "Why would Anybody Want" I hope you have a long time to read. I don't have that much time to write even though I am retired, so will limit it to one. Why would anybody want anything but a basic field grade "Pumpgun"????

The Red label, is a good solid gun. A little heavy for my taste, but that is taste. The stainless receiver is not a great metal to engrave. Even when the blued metal one is considered it does not breed the following that other O/U's have.
I must admit i see very few upgrades of O/U's compared to SXS. I can't say i have ever yearned for an upgraded red label, much less a red label at all.
All said their maybe a market for upgraded Rugers, but i doubt it will be big enough to specialize in.

The Red Label was far from a good solid gun. That's why it's gone.

No. Would you like a dressed up Baikal as well? Some field grade guns just do not lend themselves to being dressed up like a high grade gun.

I think Ruger would increase sales ... if they put a plastic stock on their gun, matt black finish, no rib, no ejectors, put a bayonet mount on it and called it "Survivor" model and charged $400 less.
