I'm posting a photo that I received of my Steve Earle Fraser. Bob did, IMHO, a wonderful job and I am beyond pleased at the results. I actually have more photos but until I have a better command of Windows 10 it is what it is.

The next decision will be what finish to use on the frame. I certainly do not what to cover up the engraving.

Good job Bob!! I would opt for a "French gray" finish perhaps case colored then remove the color. Does the action need to be case hardened?

I would certainly trust an engraver to know what finish to use, so I vote with Sam!

Now,where is the stock blank you forgot to show us?

Sam, The steel used in these actions is 8620 so it will not have to be case hardened. I agree with the French gray. That is what I had sort of planned but had also thought of color case then removing about 85% of the color. I'm sure you all understand what I mean by that.

Terry, I think that the picture that I posted is "hot linked" to my Photoshop so you should be able to click on the photo and go to my Photoshop and go forward and backward to view additional photos of the engraving and the wood. If that doesn't work for you let me know and I will post additional photos.

Jim, I don't at the present time know whether I'll be going to DSC or not. I am giving it some thought though. smile

There was an article in DGJ a few years ago showing a newly engraved action that was case-hardened but then lightened on the flat surfaces with semi-chrome or Flitz metal polish. The engraving was dark in the cuts and stood out nicely against the rest of the action.

An action that nice, with engraving of that quality deserves a top shelf piece of walnut. I am excited to see this rifle when it is completed.

Your link to other pics just cost me an hour! I was pleased to also find a good many "before" and "in process" shots of the early Optimus.

Great wood selection for the Fraser; I like that it is not so fancy that your eye can only see the wood. It would be a shame to have the engraving overwhelmed; from the animals depicted, I assume it is going to get to go to Africa at sometime.
