You and Trivial Pursuit were sort of right, "Casino Royale" was the first Bond movie*...Geo

I didn't know that until I googled it.

*just not the 1967 version with Niven in the Bond role.

I don't know about first Bond, but that IS David Niven. His autobiography, The Moon is a Balloon, was very entertaining.

It was one of the funniest books I've read, cast Niven in a whole new light for me.

They can teach a good actor to look like he can do anything, even act.

Read his book. Niven knew how to do a lot of things.

I enlarged the photo and convinced it is a Lefever . The shiny button on the right side is the cocking indicator

Just looked at it again. English , not a Lefever

I loved the book, The Moon's a Balloon. I accidently memorized the limerick he delivered for his Hollywood screen test.

There once was an old man from Leeds
who swallowed a packet of seeds
great tufts of grass shot out of his a**
and his c*** was all covered with weeds.

I didn't set out to memorize it. It was just one of those things.

Even better- his "Shaken but NOT stirred Limerick" There once was a man named McSweeney, who splashed some gin all over his weinie- Not wanted to appear uncouth, and added Vermouth, and created the C***sucking Martini!

Bond! Hummmmm--I would guess the gun to be and looks very close to being a William Powell and son side lock.
