Agree. In fact, his comparison of handling measurements of the lighter 12 with those of a typical Brit game gun I think show the 21's handling favorably to those who worship at the light game gun altar.

I obviously like 21s. I don't much care for beavertails and pistol grips, but they hit my sweet spot with splinters and straight grips.

I recently shot in our local SxS tournament and won 2nd place with my Grant SLE. I was beaten by a friend of mine shooting his Model 21. He won $21 and and I won $14. Not a get rich quick sort of shoot, even with a Model 21. :-)

On serious note if anyone wants solid double with Model 21 handling and appearance they should look for Sears Roebuck Model 100 BLE. These gems can be found for well under $1000 (sometimes <500 for 12br). You get very nice bluing, fine checkering and cow horn butt plate plus pistol grip cap. It came from the factory of legendary European maker Aguirre & Aranzabal.

If you like and want the gun, make an offer to the seller, but be sure and get a 3 day inspection understanding and send it back if you find issues with it or don't like it.
Any 21 will continue to grow in value (unlike the above mentioned Sears Special) as long as they are taken care of. This one would be a waterfowl gun for sure that you wouldn't have to baby and probably give years of service. Any mechanical issues that come up in the future are easily fixed by Galazan's.
One note of warning.....if you acquire a 21 and like it, it will not be your last; it's like eating potato chips.

Nice, very nice, collection, Bob. Some first rate M-21's there.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to the meaning of your note. The handling profiles I quoted are pure fact and express no judgment/subjective opinion at all. They contain the same sort of information as does a set of stock fitting dimensions. I think most of the folk on this board would look askance at anyone opining that a 14" LOP is the ideal and it is the duty of the shooter to adapt to the stock. Likewise, an opinion of 6 1/2# being the ideal weight would require an explanation of for who, for what, where and when. Do note that I refrained from expression of any opinion.

The above said, I am going to express an opinion. In my safe resides a M-21 Skeet model with handling as follows: 12 bore, 26" bbls w/ beavertail, 15 3/4 LOP w/ pistol grip, 8# 1oz, 3 1/4" balance to trigger, 1.85 unmounted, 8.23 mounted, and 10.32 compactness. In my opinion, it is a wicked good skeet gun. Here is why. I am 6' 2", 220#, slow muscle twitch, above average strength. and good endurance. Therefore, the 8# heft is OK for repeated lifts to shoulder. The 3 1/4" balance puts a higher % of the weight in my trigger hand and leaves my front hand with a lower % of effort to lift and a higher % for swing. The 1.85 (just slower than a Ruger Red Label 28 bore at 1.70) unmounted is plenty fast for low gun style skeet and sporting clays. The 8.23 mounted is sufficiently stable to generally overcome my tendency to relax at trigger pull and not follow through. The foregoing is an opinion of/for me and is not intended to suggest what may suit anyone else. However, I do hope some of you all try this at home. grin

Qusetions? (I know how to spell, but, maybe, not tyep)

Clapper, I have had Half Weight Radius from the get-go. Recently, I "saw the light bulb go on over a guy's head" when I said compactness rather than HWR with the compactness discussion following. Engineering terms like center of gravity (balance point), Moment of Inertia at CG (unmounted swing effort), Moment of Inertia at butt (mounted swing effort), and Half Weight Radius (compactness) seem to confuse/intimidate more than precisely explain/define. So, I try to use the "street terms" when discussing with a mixed group. I sincerely hope no one finds my word choices pedantic or smart a$$.

My apologies to RocketMan if I was a bit quick to defend "My Ladies".
When you mentioned "Pig on a snow shovel" I thought you were besmirching "The Girls"
and my response may have been hasty in my hurry to find my dueling pistols. Peace. wink
