I was looking for Ruger Gold Labels online and saw this listing: https://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976878754.htm#

It intimates that the Gold Label has been discontinued. Can anyone verify this one way or the other? It's still listed in the catalogue and this is the first I've heard of it possibly being discontinued.

They haven't made any since (I believe) the end of last summer. Supposedly they stopped production so that they could install a new improved manufacturing line that will have better quality.

At the NRA convention the Ruger Reps told people that production would begin again in May - Don't know if that has happened.

I think many people have speculated that they will not be available again.

I had one, kind of wish that I hadn't sold it, but it did have some fit issues. I probably should have kept it and had it restocked.

Unfortunately, Ruger insists on stocking their shotguns with dimensions that fit no one.

I've had several Red Labels and never could get them to fit properly, ie, pads, bending, etc.. The only gun that I really liked was the 28ga., but, I could never shoot it comfortably due to the terrible stocking.

I would be interesteed in a Gold Label if they had human dimensions. They are too short and too low!!!!

I called Ruger this morning regarding the Gold Label and was told that they do intend on resuming production, but, as of now, don't know when that will commence.

I am sure there are any number of folks that may have difficulty wrapping themselves around a Ruger, but I have not been one of them. Indeed, I have always felt one of the selling points of the Red Label, other than its durability, was its shootability. I have a Gold Label, and every comment about stock fit and finish is correct - it is pretty awful. That said, the gun handles like a dream and digests anything loaded into it. Hope they can get it back into production.

My Gold Label (PG stock) fits me well and has given good service over the season that I've used it on game and informal trap. First shot at game got me a wild cock pheasant, a long, difficult shot at that. I've killed grouse, quail, and pheasants since, and a couple of woodies at beaver ponds (plus an unfortunate coyote that was bothering a dairy farmer friend of mine).

The only "complaint" have about it is that it is light for use with heavy loads (I found that out hunting in SW Kansas where the shots on pheasant are LONG and you need to use 4s and 5s). Any sloppy mounting of the gun will get you socked but good (I think my upper right arm still says "Ruger"....and that was in December!). I can't imagine using the 3" mags that it also chambers. Wood on mine is also so pretty that I don't want to cut it, which would be needed to fit a pad--a pullover makes it too long.

Neither of these are legitimate complaints--more like niggling whining. I love the gun; wish they would make a small guage version.

The really laughable thing about this project is that now that it has possibly died a well-deserved death, the Ruger collectors
will HAVE to have one. It was too long in coming, over priced and under appealing, from the start. JMO, of course. No offense intended toward anyone who loves them. Heck, some people even love the Red Labels.

Back in the eighties when I considered buying a Red Label 12 gauge and a brute at that, weighing in at over a whooping 8lbs!!!!, I read an article which said that Ruger was going to trim some fat off the Red Labels. As the models got leaner the wood would improve along with the fit and finish, the model designations would be Gold, Blue and the top of the line o/u would be the Black Label. Where the hell this side by side came from beats the heck out of me!!!

I'm one of those few, apparently, that the Red Labels and Gold Labels fit. Either that, or because the Red Label was my first O/U, I don't know any better. The Red Label may be a bit heavier, but I can shoot it all day without a flinch or bruise.
The Gold Label fits,apparently, only because I'm used to the Red Label and don't know any better. To my eye, it's a very pretty shotgun and the wood is much better than the "table leg rejects" on my Red Labels. It's a lot lighter, but I can shoot it all day too. It may not be as refined as some of the foriegn stuff, but it's shootable for me and the durability is great. There aren't many other American-made affordable choices.(That's still important to me.)
I've got an AYA, Simson, Bernadelli and a Merkel, but the Rugers are usually my "go to" guns.

Ditto to what mtw said. My first O/U was a Red Label as well; I have shot about everything with it (birds, deer, clays, skeet, etc.) as well as I ever have and never had a failure with it in 19 years and lots of use (unlike my Brownings and Spanish guns). It is a bit heavy, I will agree; keeps on swinging though! I also really like my Gold Label. Much more fun to carry, and I guess I got really lucky, but they fit me too, and I ended up with real pretty wood on both....Karma ??!!
