Speaking of corn, when the crop tassels you can smell it on cool summer evenings. Reminds me of going to visit a girlfriend years ago with the windows down in the car and not a care in the world, smelling that ripening corn.

I went to North Louisiana last weekend for a birthday celebration. We celebrated Mr. Browns's 90 th birthday a week early.

He is a very interesting gentleman, having spent most of his working life in law enforcement, except for a stint in WWII. He was drafted into the Marines and then transfered to the Army as an MP. Before going to England he was assigned as a guard/courier for Gen. Eisenhower and other dignitaries. Has papers to prove it.

Anyway that part of the state when I was growing up was cotton, then soybeans, now corn with some rice. Corn was 4 to 6 feet tall, and with rain looks good.
