Personally, being a person with small hands & a short thumb, when walking in for a covey rise over a pointing dog/dogs & with no desire to actually put the gun into a firing condition until it is on it's way to my shoulder I find a Hammerless works best for me. Thus for me it's LLL (Long Live Lefever).

Hmm, another bit of hunting etiquette with dogs I was not aware of. 2-piper, I wonder if you might consider starting a thread of common courtesy and etiquette when hunting upland with dogs? I suppose there are books for this, but a simple list of practices considered wise to follow by guests hunting with dog owners or guides would be greatly appreciated, and maybe enlightening for others besides myself. I have never hunted over dogs, but hope to do so this coming season, and after safety first, would like to not come off like a buffoon on my first time out, never to be invited back. Just a thought. Thanks
