PCs are like digital watches - there is always a better, cheaper one on the way - just stay tuned. KBM

The misunderstanding about PCs is like the misunderstanding about alternative fuels to gasoline ... PC's didn't make our lives easier, they simply added capability and therefore complexity to our lives ... and alternatives fuels to gasoline won't make it cheaper to drive, it'll just be another alternative fuel because no one will give away the alternative fuel for much less than the competition (gasoline).

So, basically, we're hosed. Get used to PCs (Mac's, whatever) causing more work and fuel prices being over $3/gal. It ain't gettin' any better because of "alternatives".

Sorry to disagree Chuck, but a Mac is a way better "alternative"!

No arguement from me JC. I'm just too stubborn to change to a Mac now.

But all these computers still just add work to our lives by making it easier to do more, not make it easier...overall. ...and no one is gonna make it cheaper to drive with alternative fuels when the market will bear the current cost of fuel, and probably more.

Chuck, agree with your points of view both on computers and alternative fuels. From what I understand more energy is used to produce ethanol from corn than what it delivers (apart from the fact that huge subsidies are necessary to make it economically "viable") so in the end cheaper it is not!

I need a new machine, but have been putting it off and off and off because of the hassle of setting up a new one. You know, reinstalling the internet software, resetting passwords because the IP address has changed, all that. I'm using a PC bought seven years ago running WIN 98 (added a big flat panel monitor a couple of years ago) and when I started having problems, I figured it was time. Then I downloaded Firefox as my browser and all my problems went away. This browser is FREE, powerful, and can be set up to do just what you want. No popup-blocking software needed. Among all it's features, it even utilizes the spell and grammar check feature from MS Word. I never had a spell checker work in ANY message board till now. And it will move all your bookmarks from IE into the program automatically. Download and installation is easy. Try it, you'll like it. It may negate the need for you to get a new machine.

I agree, EVERYBODY running a PC should give Mozilla's Firefox spin around the block. Beats MS Internet Explorer hands down!

Yes, Macs are good - they would be fantastic if everybody owned and only used a Mac and nobody used a PC. Even a reasonable element of compatibility between the OS systems of both would be nice. Until then I'll stick to PC's - there are far too many incompatabilities between the two and hardware... come to think of it aren't Macs now starting to use Microsoft "style" programmes...???

Don't even mention Macs and PC's on the same wireless network, they aren't fully compatible IMHE no matter how hard you try. Stick to one or the other - not both.
